Recovery Comes in Many Forms

At the Wichita Recovery Hub, we define recovery as something broader than forming new paths away from substance use disorders. Recovery is about the brutal honesty we all need to face our own brokenness and find healing.

One common trait we’ve noticed from the time we spend with friends in substance use recovery –  everyone who is growing is extremely honest about what is broken in life. We believe this honesty is an important path to healing of any kind. The intensive, life-saving journey of recovery from drug addiction or an alcohol use disorder is vital and brave. And at the same time, we are finding that recovery takes many shapes.

For those who are healing from a substance use disorder, understanding and admitting the problem is a primary first step to recovering the life we actually want to live, full of health and wholeness. Your life is valuable and worth working for. If you’re in this group, the Wichita Recovery Hub is for you.

There are more forms of recovery that may be less visible. Among us, we also have folks who are working through things like grief, perfectionism, disordered eating, compulsive behaviors, and the unhealthy ways we sometimes use things like social media, sex, or achievement to cope. These forms of brokenness may be less visible, but they are real and also require honesty. Recovery from various forms of addiction or trauma may take a different form than substance use recovery, but we make space for all forms of recovery because we all need healing and wholeness. Your life is valuable and worth working for. If you are in this group and ready to be honest about your own struggles, the Wichita Recovery Hub is also for you.

We are inspired every day by people doing the hard, excruciating work of recovery from substance use disorders. Broadening our definition of recovery is not meant to diminish that work, or to say that all forms of recovery are equal.

All the unhealthy behaviors that show up in our lives are symptoms of brokenness (internal emotional and spiritual wounds) and need healing. Some require more intensive treatments and recovery processes. All require admitting our need for help with honesty and hope.

We all need recovery from something. We all need healing. The world is broken, but we find help and healing in community.

The Wichita Recovery Hub is a place for everyone seeking wholeness with brutal honesty. If you’re not sure your journey qualifies as recovery, the answer is definitely YES – whether you’re recovering from a visible substance use disorder or wrestling with more quiet struggles, there is a spot for you too. Please come join us and experience this kind and caring community of broken, honest, and healing people.
