Wichita City Council to Recognize Recovery Month with Proclamation

ree

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WICHITA, KANSAS – September 2, 2025 – The Wichita City Council will officially recognize September as Recovery Month with a formal proclamation reading during their City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, 9:00 am at Wichita City Hall.

This proclamation affirms the City of Wichita’s commitment to supporting individuals and families in recovery from substance use disorder, mental health challenges, trauma, and homelessness. It also underscores the importance of building a recovery-ready community through education, compassion, and access to resources.

The proclamation is part of a broader initiative led by the Wichita Recovery Coalition, a network of local organizations, service providers, and advocates working collaboratively to strengthen recovery support systems throughout the region.

“Every path of recovery matters,” said Seth Dewey, Regional Area Director of Mirror, Inc. “Together, we are creating a community where hope, healing, and belonging are possible for all. While we celebrate recovery every day this month is a special opportunity to recognize the power of change and that recovery is possible.”

“This recognition is a meaningful step forward,” said Carrie Corliss, Interim Board President of Wichita Recovery Hub. “We know that recovery thrives in connection. By standing together, we can build a community that embraces hope, healing, and long-term support for every person in recovery.”

September marks the 36th annual National Recovery Month, a time to celebrate the progress made by those in recovery and highlight the services that make long-term healing achievable. The 2025 observance carries the theme "Restoring Every Aspect of Life (REAL)," emphasizing the four dimensions of recovery: health, home, community, and purpose. This theme reflects the Wichita Recovery Coalition’s mission to build a more inclusive, welcoming, and recovery-ready city.

The public is encouraged to attend the City Council meeting and show support for recovery in our community.
